Keeping their documents with them may be vital for migrants and for the new life they dream to start. You may all remember the tragic death of a 14-year-old Malian boy who drowned in the Mediterranean Sea in 2015, his school report sewn in his pocket.
Migrants face many difficulties in gathering and carrying their documents with them along their migration journey. Sometimes the migrants have to flee their countries without any luggage, more often their personal belongings – including documents - get lost, destroyed, stolen. This makes it extremely complicated for them to register in the states of residence, access basic services or apply for asylum. In several situations, migrants may want not to identify themselves in fear of being pushed back or expelled.
GPP also allows the migrants to temporarily share their documents and sensitive information with the NGOs and civil society organizations registered in the GPP portal via a limited-time token.
